How a desert city became one of the most expensive and beauty city in the world

The world as we know is built upon the platform of ideas. Every attractive cities in the world today are product of creative ideas, Dubai can not be exempted. It is one of the city in our generation that makes many people dumbfounded today. It is so amazing how a desert can become so attractive, powerful, commercialize, industrious and economically expensive.

Whatever we see today in Dubai is a product of thought that was nurture for several years in the womb of one man Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum. He was responsible for the transformation of Dubai from a small cluster of settlements near the Dubai Creek to a modern port city and commercial hub. He ruled for 32 years from 1958 until his death in 1990. He was a man with fore-sight, fore-thought, vision, dream, desire, drive and passion for his people and the future of his community even after death.

His drive to see Dubai as one of the most beautiful and commercial city in the world was born out of his famous line "My grandfather rode a camel, my father rode a camel, I drive a Mercedes, my son drives a Land Rover, his son will drive a Land Rover, but his son will ride a camel," reflected his concern that Dubai's oil, which was discovered in 1966 and which began production in 1971, would run out within a few generations. He therefore worked to develop the economy of Dubai so that it could survive after the end of oil production, and was a driving force behind a number of major infrastructure projects to promote Dubai as a regional hub for trade.

The following are list of infrastructure that was built during the reign of Rashid;  Port Rashid (opened in 1972)Al Shindagha Tunnel (opened in 1975), Jebel Ali Port (opened in 1979), Dubai World Trade Centre (built in 1978),The second major dredging and widening of the Dubai Creek (early 1970s), and Dubai Drydocks (opened in 1983).

However, after decades of Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum death Dubai is finally coming to terms with the dream of this great leader. The city has now achieved world record in many areas most especially in buildings related project, which includes:   the tallest building in the world (Burj Khalifa), the tallest residential building in the world (Princess Tower), the tallest hotel in the world (JW Marriott Marquis Dubai), the world's largest shopping mall (Dubai Mall), the world's largest fountain (The Dubai Fountain), the world's tallest hotel (Rose Tower), Burj Al Arab building which stands on an artificial island (it is sometimes referred to as "the world's only 7-Star hotel"), Emirate tower, infinity tower, and Palm Islands (man-made islands). Also under construction is Dubailand, which will be almost twice the size of the Walt Disney World Resort.
